WORCESTER – A three-alarm fire at the construction site for the new Doherty High School led to one worker transferred to the hospital with injuries on Monday.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area of Highland St due to a working fire. Please seek alternate routes.

According to a briefing by city officials, roofing insulation caught fire, causing the blaze that led to a traffic advisory near the Highland Street and Newton Square area.
Be advised that there is an fire operation occurring on Highland Street. This area will experience traffic delays. Any media are asked to stage at the Bath House by Elm Park and representatives will be available for comment at 4:30pm.

“This was like a punch to the gut. We’ve put half a billion dollars into our public school students the last few years and worked very hard on the construction of this building,” said Worcester Mayor Joe Petty.
