WORCESTER – Thousands are expected to fill the streets of Worcester to pay respect to fallen firefighter Lt. Jason Menard on Monday morning.
The Worcester Police Department has provided a list of road closures and parking restrictions ahead of Lt. Menard’s funeral services and procession.
Police are advising drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to take extra care to obey the rules of the road and to be considerate of others traveling on local streets in the areas surrounding the event. Please plan ahead and seek alternate routes as the areas mentioned will be congested.
The funeral of Lt. Menard is taking place at St. John’s Church at 44 Temple St. at 11 AM.
Road Closures — Beginning at 7:30 AM until Conclusion of Services [approx 1:30 PM]
- Washington Square along with all roads leading into the square
- Lower Grafton Street at the 290 on and off ramps
- Temple Street
- Green Street along with all roads leading into Green Street (Ashe Street, Temple Street, Plymouth Street, Harrison Street, Winter Street, Goddard Street, Gold Street, Madison Street)
- Harding Street will only be open from Winter Street to Kelley Square
There will be intermittent traffic flow from approximately 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Francis J. McGrath Blvd. from Madison Street to Green Street.
There will be traffic control on the following streets from approximately 10:00 AM. until 11:00 AM [please avoid these areas if possible]:
- Shrewsbury Street
- East Central Street
- Major Taylor Blvd.
- Front Street
- Temple Street
From approximately 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM the following streets will be briefly impacted by the private funeral procession, which will be traveling from St. John’s Church on Temple Street to St. John’s Cemetery on Cambridge Street:
- Green Street
- Kelley Square
- Vernon Street
- Winthrop Street
- Providence Street
- McKeon Road
- Cambridge Street
- Southbridge Street
- Madison Street
- Chandler Street
- Park Avenue
- Main Street
- Webster Street
- Fremont Street
- Cambridge Street -St. John’s Cemetery
Parking Restrictions for Monday, Nov. 18:
No parking on Temple Street and Green Street beginning at 2:00 AM until the conclusion of the funeral procession.
There will be no public parking at Union Station from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
In addition, on Sunday, November 17, 2019 motorists should avoid the area of 370 Plantation Street (Mercadante Funeral Home) during the calling hours being held 3-7 p.m.
