UMass Memorial Reinstates Mask Mandate for Caregivers

WORCESTER – UMass Memorial Medical Center will reinstate its mask mandate for caregivers in all patient and common areas, and in all patient encounters, starting on Jan. 2. The policy will be in effect for at least a month.

Patients will not be required to wear masks, though they will be encouraged to do so. At the discretion of hospital employees, visitors may be asked to wear a mask if they are exhibiting symptoms of raspatory illness.

Cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts have increased significantly over the last several weeks. According to the Department of Public Health COVID-19 Dashboard, in the period of Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, there were a total of 2,121 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, the lowest since July 30 to AUG. 5.

in the most rece3nt reporting period, Dec. 17 to Dec. 23, the total confirmed and probable cases is 6,038.

UMass last had a mask mandates for caregivers when it was temporarily reinstate in August after cancelling its original mandate in May.
