WORCESTER – The Worcester Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding the driver of a gold 2002 Toyota Avalon that was involved in a serious crash Sunday morning on Chandler St.
According to the WPD, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Chandler and Piedmont streets just after 2 AM. Upon arrival, officers found a “large, unruly crowd” at the site of the accident. A 39-year-old male was trapped in a 2011 gold Nissan Murano.
As ThisWeekinWorcester.com previously reported, the SUV had crashed into Horizon Acupuncture at 133 Chandler St., causing serious damage to the building. (SEE PHOTOS BELOW)
The male was trapped briefly before Worcester Firefighters were able to open the door and free him.
Witnesses told the police that the driver from the Toyota fled the scene after the accident. A passenger in the Toyota was found and brought to the hospital.
The WPD determined that the Nissan Murano was traveling West on Chandler St and the Toyota Avalon was traveling North on Piedmont St. The vehicles crashed in the westbound lanes of Chandler St, and the Nissan struck the building. The accident is still under investigation, and the investigators would like to speak with the driver of the Toyota. Everyone involved in expected to survive.
