WORCESTER – A local man was arraigned in federal court in Worcester on charges related to child pornography on Wednesday, July 14.
Federal prosecutors charged Matthew Stefanelli, 31, of Upton, with one count of possession of child pornography. Stefanelli remains detained pending a July 19 hearing.
According to prosecutors, agents seized several electronic devices from Stefanelli’s residence on January 6. A forensic review revealed images of child pornography saved in an encrypted application.
The charge of possession of child pornography provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
