Worcester Fire Dept., Red Cross Install Free Smoke Alarms

The Worcester Fire Department and American Red Cross are partnering on Saturday, April 17, as part of the Red Cross’ “Sound the Alarm” campaign.

Teams of firefighters and Red Cross personnel will canvass Worcester neighborhoods, including the Greendale area near the Greendale Fire Station, the Belmont Street/Coburn Ave. area, and Hadwen Road neighborhood.

The teams will offer free installation of new smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Since January 1, 53 building fires caused 1,103 individual displaced in Worcester. Three people have died in structure fires.

From October 1, 2020 through the end of March, the Red Cross responded to 24 incidents that included service requests. They assisted 2019 individuals in 109 households with $57,961 in humanitarian assistance along with non-financial support to fire survivors.
