WORCESTER – Celebrate the 135th anniversary of the best-known poem in the history of baseball at the Worcester Historical Museum on Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3. Ernest Thayer wrote Casey at the Bat,” in 1886, at 67 Chatham St. in Worcester.
“Casey at the Bat” first appeared in print in the San Francisco Examiner on June 3, 1888.
On Friday, June 2, “Talk of the Commonwealth” host Hank Stolz will read “Casey at the Bat” at the Worcester Bravehearts game at Fitton Field on the campus of Holy Cross College.
On Saturday, June 3, the Worcester Historical Museum hosts a reinterpretation of the poem. Attendees are encouraged to wear baseball uniforms, both new and old.
