WORCESTER – 29-year-old Anthony Gomes will be arraigned in Worcester District Court today following his arrest on Monday for armed assault to murder.
Early Tuesday morning, Worcester Police officers were called to South St. for a report of a woman shot in the back. When the officers arrived, they found the woman with a single gunshot wound at the middle of her back. Neighbors that heard the gunshot were assisting her and applying direct pressure to the wound. The woman was brought to a nearby hospital and although her injuries are serious, they are not expected to be life threatening.
After a brief investigation, WPD officers developed probably cause to arrest Gomes, of 1 Hale St. #3. The officers found Gomes driving his vehicle at the intersection of Grafton and Hamilton streets. The officers stopped Gomes’ vehicle, removed him from the car and placed him under arrest.
