|Ceramic ARTpreneur and creative small business owner Laurel Knox, is the woman behind the kiln at the oldest pottery painting studio in Central Massachusetts, Claytime. Helping clients of all ages express themselves through hand painted clay projects, Laurel’s passion for her work is distinct in how she shares and teaches what she loves. For almost 20 years her studio has evolved from painted ceramics, to newer creative offerings like fused glass and words on wood, keeping herself and her customers inspired. This Week In Worcester spoke with Laurel about her business — where it’s been and where it’s going — and why she chose to sponsor Worcester’s only creative networking event for women.
Can you share with us a bit about your business and how you got started?
“I first opened Claytime as a Paint Your Own Pottery Studio in a small shop in Worcester in 1999. Over the next few years I began outgrowing the space and I wanted to be able to bring in other activities besides pottery painting. In 2002 I moved Claytime to the large two-story building we are in now. In this current location I was able to not only offer pottery painting, but had the ability to bring in glass fusing, mosaics and words on wood board art as well.”
What brought you to Ladies Night Out Worcester and what do you like about it?
“I have been a business owner in the Worcester area for almost 20 years and have come across some other woman business owners throughout the years. When I saw Ladies Night Out Worcester on Facebook I knew I could not miss out on the opportunity to not only network with other women business owners but to promote my business to other women in the community.”
Where can people interested in coming to Claytime for classes and events find you?
“People are welcome to walk in anytime during open hours. Monday—Thursday, 10am — 9pm, Fridays and Saturdays, 10am — 10pm, and Sundays, 12pm—6pm. Reservations are recommended on weekends and school vacations.”
ClayTime is located at 124 BostonTurnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
