WORCESTER – The Worcester Red Sox got its first extra inning win on Friday night, May 14, at Polar Park, with a walk off walk from Marcus Wilson.

Wilson worked a full count with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning and walked in the game winner to take its third win in four games against the Syracuse Mets.

Wilson produced Worcester’s only other run, also on a full count, leading off the second inning, when he hit a line drive home run to center field.

Worcester starting pitcher Kyle Hart threw 103 pitches and dealt six shutout innings for Worcester without allowing a hit while striking out six with four walks. With only one run of support he left Worcester in the lead after six.

John Schrieber took over in the seventh and gave up one hit, a home run to right field to Syracuse’s Quinn Brodey, while striking out the side.

The score stayed locked at 1-1 after the ninth when Seth Blair took over on the mound for Worcester.

With a runner on second base to start the inning, a newly introduced rule for extra innings, Blair walked Drew Ferguson and Syracuse’s Cody Bohanek bunted them both over to have runners on second and third with one out.

Blair intentionally walked Johneshwy Fargas to load the bases, but got a pop out to the catcher and a ground ball to escape unscathed.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Jarren Duran’s ground ball moved Worcester’s Jeff Bandy to third. Syracuse pitcher Stephen Nogosek intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases.

Nogosek got Yairo Munoz to pop out to bring Wilson up with two outs and the bases still loaded.

Wilson worked Nogosek who then missed inside to Wilson to walk him and end the game.

Worcester has earned a series split at worst, winning three of the first four of the six-game series with Syracuse.

The two teams go back at it again today, Saturday, May 15, with a 4:05 start.
