WORCESTER – A new study finds Worcester is the 12th best city in the United States for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
The study considered 200 U.S. cities across 15 key metrics, including Irish pubs and restaurants per capita, price of a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day, and the weather forecast.
The study compiled those 15 metrics into four categories. Here is how Worcester ranked, from one to 200, in each of those categories.
- 12th – St. Patrick’s Day Traditions
- 62nd – St. Patrick’s Day Weather
- 93rd – Safety and Accessibility
- 144th – Costs
If the individual metrics, the study found the following rankings for Worcester:
- 3rd – Percent of Irish Population
- 15th – Irish Pubs & Restaurants per Capita
- 50th – Access to Bars
- 62nd – Weather Forecast for St. Patrick’s Day
- 83rd – Avg. Beer Price
The study found Boston as the best city in the U.S. for St. Patrick’s day celebration. Springfield was the only other
Massachusetts city on the list. It ranked 59.

Nationwide, 31.5 million Americans claim Irish ancestry, second to only German. Estimates predict that $6/85 billion will be spent collectively on St. Patrick’s Day 2023, including a 174 percent increase in beer sales and 153 percent more spirits sold when compared to the average day.
