WORCESTER – It may be hard to believe, but so far this winter, Worcester finds itself among the top 10 snowiest cities in America.
According to data from GoldenSnowGlobe.com, as of January 2, Worcester is tenth snowiest city in America with a cumulative snowfall of 27.6 inches this winter — a whopping 20 inches behind the current snowiest city of Lakewood, Colorado with 47.1 inches of snow.

Among New England cities, Worcester follows only Manchester, New Hampshire [32.4 inches] in the Top 10 Snowiest in the Country — and is ahead of Lowell (22.8) and Hartford (22 inches) in the Top 25.
The Golden Snow Globe Contest — run by Patrick DeCoursey of East Syracuse, New York — originated among cities and towns in New York in the 1970s, but now keeps track of all cities with populations of 100,000 or more with the participation of people living in those cities.
The contest, which serves as a community board of sorts for people to talk about snow and snowfall totals, ranks the top 25 snowiest cities in America in real-time.
In 2014, Worcester finished just behind Lowell as the second snowiest city in America when the city got hit hard with nearly 120 inches of snow.
According to Route 20 Weather, it is looking increasingly likely that Worcester will see more snow on Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Their forecast calls for at least a few more inches of snow with the outside possibility of a significant snowfall.
