WORCESTER – Worcester residents need to turn their frowns upside-down.

According to the newest report from the data experts at Wallethub, Worcester is in the bottom 22% of the unhappiest cities in America. The report – 2019’s Happiest Cities in America – ranks Worcester #142 out of 182 cities studied by Wallethub.

The report examined each city on 31 indicators of happiness — ranging from depression rate to income-growth rate to average leisure time spent per day.

Worcester received a total score of 49.77 — compared to the “Happiest” city in America, Plano, Texas, which received a score of 72.30. The scores were measured by several indicators across three categories — Emotional & Physical Well-Being (Up to 5o total points), Income & Employment (Up to 25 total points), and Community & Environment (Up to 25 total points). Worcester ranked #125, #149, and #159 in each of those three categories, respectively.

In New England, Burlington, VT ranked as the happiest place to live (#43 overall in America), followed by Boston (#58), Portland (#61) South Burlington (#69), and Nashua (#91).
