WORCESTER – For fans from the Worcester County area, there will be familiar faces lining the first base line at Hanover Insurance Park at the Worcester Bravehearts Opening Day on May 30.
On Wednesday, the Bravehearts announced the signing of seven players — including five local pitchers — as they begin to round-out their 2018 season roster.
The Bravehearts had previously announced the return of Shrewsbury residents — Danny Barlok of Holy Cross and Kendall Pomeroy of UMass-Lowell — to the pitching staff. The team will return pitcher Sebastian Gruszecki (Dudley, MA / Shepherd Hill Regional H.S.) and have added three other pitchers from the area including Brenden Cournoyer (Dudley, MA / The Berkshire School), Sean Burke (Sutton, MA / St. John’s H.S.), and Douglas-resident Matt Stansky of Bryant University.
The pitching staff will also include Cody Laweryson (Bingham, ME / Upper Kennebec Valley H.S.) of the University of Maine returning to the team, and adding Nathan Florence (Wilbraham, MA / Minnechaug H.S.).
The Bravehearts announced the signing of two position players on Monday also, with the return of both infielder Kevin Doody (Canton, MA / Berkshire Academy) and catcher Brett Coffel(Clermont, FL / Lake Minneola H.S.).
The Bravehearts will begin announcing the rest of the roster in March. Opening night is Wednesday, May 30 against the Nashua Silver Knights at Hanover Insurance Park.
