WORCESTER – A Shrewsbury woman who owns and manages a chiropractor officer in Worcester was indicted last week for defrauding thousands of dollars from insurance companies.
According to Attorney General Maura Healey’s office, Dr. Kelly H. Cao, 47, was indicted June 21 y a Worcester County Grand Jury on the charges of Motor Vehicle Insurance Fraud (13 counts), Larceny over $1,200 (two counts), and Larceny under $1,200 (one count).
In total, Dr. Cao allegedly defrauded $3,455 from insurance companies. She will be arraigned on the charges in Worcester Superior Court at a later date.
Dr. Cao is a licensed chiropractor and the owner of Healing Hands, Chiropractic, LLC in Worcester. Healing Hands provides care to patients with auto insurance coverage, private health care insurance, and those who pay cash.
According to the AG’s office, Healing Hands, Dr. Cao would provide her patients with a cervical pillow and an exercise packet with resistance bands and a chart explaining to the patients how to exercise at home. She would then bill insurance companies for these items.
Authorities said that Dr. Cao billed three insurance companies — for 13 patients overall — as a result of automobile accidents, for pillows and packets that the patients never received.
Additionally, three of these patients were allegedly not treated by Cao on dates for which she billed their respective insurance companies.
This investigation was referred to the Attorney General’s Office by the state’s Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB). The charges against Dr. Cao are allegations and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
