Worcester Opens Cooling Centers on Friday

WORCESTER – The City of Worcester will open three cooling centers on Thursday, Sept. 8 and Friday, Sept. 9, in anticipation of high temperature on those days.

The cooling centers will be at:

  • The Worcester Public Library main branch, located at 3 Salem Square, is open Thursday and Friday from 9 AM. to 5:30 PM.
  • The Worcester Public Library Frances Perkins Branch, located at 470 West Boylston St., is open Thursday from 12M to  8:30 p.m. On Friday, the branch is open from 10 AM . – 6:30 PM.
  • The Worcester Senior Center, located at 129 Providence St., is open Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM.

Each cooling center will have water available.

The city’s Quality of life Team will also have water in their vehicles as they travel within the city.

City officials remind residents that prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity impact the body’s natural cooling systems and can lead to elevated body temperature and risk of illness. Residents are advised to limit strenuous physical activity, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors.
