WORCESTER – Two Worcester men were ordered held on $75,000 bail at their arraignment on Monday in Worcester Central District Court.
As ThisWeekinWorcester.com reported on Sunday, Aug. 11, Carmelo Andujar, 40, of 67 May St., 1st floor, Worcester, and Ernest R. Daigle, 62, of 8 Auburn St., Apt. 1, Worcester, were arrested while in possession of more than two kilograms of cocaine.
They are both charged with trafficking in a class B controlled substance (cocaine) over 200 grams; and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance laws.
According to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., not guilty pleas were entered on their behalf.
Judge Maura McCarthy set the bail and continued the cases to Sept. 11 for a probable cause hearing.
The investigation began on Sunday, Aug. 4 with a discovery in San Juan, Puerto Rico of a suspicious package addressed to Daigle’s address in Worcester. After UPS alerted Home Land Security Investigations, it was determined the package contained more than two kilograms of cocaine and a controlled delivery was planned and executed.
The men were arrested on drug trafficking charges on Friday, August 9, following a multi-agency investigation involving the Mass. State Police, Worcester Police and the District Attorney’s office.
Andujar was arrested at about 11:30 AM on Friday after picking up the package at Daigle’s home. Daigle was arrested a short time later in Shrewsbury.
