WORCESTER – Roads were blocked all around the Water St. area in Worcester on Tuesday afternoon after the discovery of a possible explosive in the area.

According to sources, it was reported around 1:15 PM that a pipe bomb — possibly two — was discovered near Water St.

However, around 2:30 PM, police reported that there were no explosives found and the Massachusetts State Police was called off from the scene.

Worcester Police cruisers blocked off Grafton St., Harding St. and all entrances and exits from Water St.  At 2:40 PM, all patrols were cleared from the area.

Police were directing traffic from Harding St. towards Green St. and from Grafton St. towards the I-290 East ramp.

According to the police scanner, the objects were described as all black and according to the WPD, they were found in a backpack.
