WORCESTER – On Sunday afternoon, a 44-year-old man was the victim of an armed robbery on Belmont St. after he posted an ad to phone app “Offer Up” attempting to sell an Xbox.
According to the Worcester Police Department, the victim arrived to 150 Belmont St and was approached by a suspect who snatched the Xbox from the victim’s hands. Although the victim attempted to resist, the suspect made a gesture through his sweatshirt that he was carrying a weapon. The victim, fearing his safety, let go off the Xbox.
Another male suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Yemdy Marte of 150 Belmont St., was identified by the victim as responsible for orchestrating the theft and the person that agreed to meet the suspect to purchase the Xbox. When the victim alerted the WPD, he identified Marte. Marte provided misleading information to the WPD officers. He was placed under arrest and charged with Armed Robbery and Misleading a Police Investigation.
The investigation revealed the second suspect — the one that ran off with the Xbox — and a warrant application for Armed Robbery has been submitted to the Worcester County District Courthouse. The police continue to search for the second suspect.
