LISTEN: ‘Worcester Smile’ Song Performed by Award-Winning Local Singer

WORCESTER – This Friday, June 21, the City of Worcester will officially get its name in song.

In celebration of Make Music Worcester Day, multi-award winning singer/songwriter and host of New England Pride TV, Dale LePage will debut his tribute song to the Heart of the Commonwealth, ‘Worcester Smile.’

LePage, the recipient of the 2019 Harvey Ball Smile Award, wrote the lyrics and melody for the song which is filled with references to historic locations and landmarks throughout Worcester.

The song lists landmarks such as Union Station, Salisbury Mansion, Bancroft Tower, the Burnside Fountain [Turtle Boy], and mentions stART on the Street, the city’s role in the production of Valentine’s Day cards, the Hanover Theatre, Elm Park, triple-deckers, Mechanics Hall, Tuckerman Hall, and Coney Island.

The song also features prominent people from Worcester including Marshall “Major” Taylor, Abby Kelley Foster, Robert Goddard and Isaiah Thomas.

The 2019 Harvey Ball will take place on Friday, Sept. 27 at the DCU Center.

“When I was informed that I was the recipient of the 2019 Harvey Ball Smile Award, I could not have been more honored,” LePage said. “I mean, really? How does a guy that started out living in his car on the streets of Worcester get to the point where this is his reality.”

Dale LePage & the Manhattans will also perform next Thursday, June 27 at the Out to Lunch Festival on the Worcester Common from 11 AM to 2 PM.
