WORCESTER – The eighth annual Worcester Summer Jam Classic takes place on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Cousy Courts at Crompton Park, at 47 Quinsigamond Ave in Worcester, from 11 AM to 7 PM. The event has a rain date of Sunday,. Aug. 11.
The Summer Jam Classic is a free, all-day basketball tournament at Cousy Courts at Crompton Park, at 47 Quinsigamond Ave in Worcester. The event was held at Grant Square Park for its first four years. This year will mark the fourth at Crompton Park.
This year, there are multiple teams that include professional, semi-professional, and amateur athletes. There are also two showcase games, one featuring local high school girls and another featuring college girls.
The event also features a substantial vendor area, with food service and other goods available.
Multiple family friendly activities occur throughout the day, hosted by the Friendly House Youth Department. Face painting will be available from noon to 4 PM, and a video game truck will be on site from 3 PM to 5 PM. There are also crafts available, including making slime, making bracelets, and multiple games.
Worcester native Anthony Barbosa leads a team that organizes the annual event. It has grown significantly over the years, with around 500 attending the fourth Summer Jam Classic, the last year it was held at Grant Square Park.
Last year, organizers estimated over 3,200 people attended throughout the course of the day at Crompton Park.
