WORCESTER – The Paul N. Johnson [PNJ] Senior Ruth league in Worcester is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Since its charter year in 1969, the league has worked to provide opportunities for all players in the area to participate in organized Senior Ruth Baseball.
“PNJ has been a staple in the Central Mass. baseball community and I am just glad to be part of it,” said Nick D’Andrea, League President. “Not many teen-based leagues last fifty years.”
PNJ will be honoring its 50th Anniversary with three games to be played at Tivnan Field at Lake Park on Saturday, June 22 — with the first pitch thrown at 10 AM. There will be an on-field ceremony at approximately 12:30 PM to honor the occasion.
“The league is deserving of such a day,” D”Andrea said. “All are invited to join us in this great achievement.”
The 2019 season will kick off on Thursday, June 6 with an 18-game schedule. The championship series is currently scheduled for July 11 and 12. The New England Regional Tournament will be held July 17-20 in Walpole, NH.
The league consists of nine Central Massachusetts teams, with four based in Worcester. Teams are located in Worcester, Shrewsbury, Holden, Douglas, Oxford and Millbury. The league’s All-Star teams have represented the New England Region in the Senior Ruth World Series six times — 1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006. The 2002 team lost in the championship game.
