WORCESTER – On Wednesday night around 11 PM, Worcester Police officers were called to St. Joseph’s Church at 35 Hamilton St for a reported alarm call.

Upon arrival, WPD officers noticed the doors to the front church were damaged and open. The K-9 unit entered the church with officers and K-9 Elvis began barking at one of the pews. Officers found 45-year-old Mark Belinskas of 10 Duncannon Ave, Worcester, hiding under the pew.

Belinskas couldn’t give a legitimate reason to the officers for being in the church and was placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering in a Building in the Nighttime and Malicious Destruction of Property.

There were no other suspects inside the church and the church custodian told police there had been no prior damage to the front doors.

Belinskas will be arraigned Thursday at the Worcester County District Courthouse.
