WORCESTER – Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier told members of the media at a 4 PM press conference on Monday, Aug. 24, that a body recovered near Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in the area of Coes Pond is believed to be that of Karen Solomon, 58.

The office of the medical examiner will make the official determination to identify the body.

In response to a question from a media member, Saucier said the body recovered appeared to have a gunshot wound. The department is attempting to identify the owner of the firearm used.

He also said the investigation is ongoing, but that the department believes the cases is a tragic murder-suicide.

Individuals employed at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital walking near the pond discovered the body, according to Saucier. He also said the location of the body is six-tenths of a mile from the location of a video of Karen Solomon previously released by police.

The body of Worcester Police officer Kurt Solomon, 57, was discovered at the couple’s home on Wildwood Avenue on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 18. Solomon serves within the Worcester Police Department for over 30 years.

Saucier also said that Massachusetts General Law declares this current situation a domestic incident because the deceased and the suspect lived in the same home. He added that the couple had no history of domestic abuse.
