WORCESTER – A traffic stop in Worcester on Thursday, Aug. 1, led to the arrest of a man for possession of a ghost gun. A ghost gun is a firearm that was not produced by a manufacturer and does not have a serial number. These weapons are often assembled by the owner.
While officers conducted a vehicle stop shortly before 8 PM, an individual in a vehicle passing by allegedly yelled an expletive at one of the officers.
According to the Worcester Police Department, the vehicle had a license plate with a heavy tint over it. The officers stopped the vehicle.
Upon asking the four occupants of the vehicle if there was a weapon present inside, one informed officers of a firearm inside the console.
Officers asked the occupants to exit the vehicle. One passenger in the backseat, Shane Rivera-Borrero, 21, had a backpack between his legs and appeared nervous. Upon a search of the backpack, officers discovered a firearm without a serial number.
Officers also discovered a firearm inside the console. The weapon was legally registered to the driver of the vehicle. The driver received a warning for the tinted license plate cover.
Rivera-Borrero was arrested and faces charges of:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License;
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License;
- Storing a Firearm Improperly; and
- Possession of Ammunition without an Fid Card
