WORCESTER – A Worcester County Grand Jury indicted two men on Friday in connection with a 1993 shooting in Fitchburg, including one who was previously charged in the case.
The office of Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. announced Monday that Robert D’Lucca, 49, and Lawrence Calafell, 51, both of Gardner, were indicted for murder in the death of Deondray Atwood, 15 at the time of the shooting on Nov. 25, 1993.
According to Early’s office, the indictment alleges D’Lucca and Calafell of shooting into a parked car on Daniels Street with three people inside. Atwood died as a result of the shooting and another passenger was wounded multiple times. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the shooting.
Massachusetts State Police arrested Calafell on Friday in Fitchburg and is expected to be arraigned on Monday in Worcester Superior Court.
D’Lucca was charged in Atwood dead in 1993, but never faced trial. Authorities in New York arrested him on a separate murder charge and is incarcerated at Sing Sing Correctional Facility. He will be transported to Massachusetts for arraignment at a future date.
