WORCESTER – A second water main break in as many days occurred on Shrewsbury Street on Thursday, January 13. The Department of Public Works and Parks [DPW&P] has not determined a cause of the breaks. The water main from Washington Square to the end of East Worcester Street at Shrewsbury Street was shut down for much of the day on Thursday.

Worcester DPW&P announced shortly before 6:30 PM that water service had returned to all customers.

Westbound lanes on Shrewsbury Street, from Mulberry Street to Hill Street, are closed until Friday, January 14, to enable repairs to the roadway.

The shutdowns are expected to last between eight and 12 hours.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area when possible.

Residents in the area may experience no water service, rusty water, or no water pressure. Those experiencing rusty water should delay washing laundry or using hot water until the cold water tap runs clear.

Updated: 7:26 PM, Jan 13, 2022 to include water service being restored.
