WORCESTER – A fatal crash on Route 2 in Leominster on Sunday, August 29, which closed right lane travel for around three hours, is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police [MSP].
At around 6:45 PM MPS learned of a multiple-vehicle crash with potential injuries on Route 2 westbound in Leominster. Leominster EMS also responded to the scene.
The MPS preliminary investigation indicates that Daniel Levangie, 44, of Wendell, was changing a tire on his 1997 Ford F350 in the breakdown lane. Wendell’s family was outside the vehicle, except for a minor who was asleep.
A 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by a 51-year-old man from Fitchburg, drifted into the breakdown lane and struck the rear of the F350 while Levangie was changing the tire.
The Chevrolet also struck Levangie, who sustained fatal injuries. EMS transported the minor inside the F350 to UMass Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries.
The State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and Worcester County State Police Detective Unit continue to investigate the crash.
