After testing all 391 of the employees of Walmart at 25 Tobias Boland Way in Worcester, City Manager Ed Augustus announced that 81 employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Augustus revealed earlier in the week that 23 employees had tested positive. That prompted the city’s Medical Director, Dr. Michael Hirsh, to issue an order for the store to close on Wednesday.

Walmart has now fulfilled the requirements set forth by the city when it closed the store. The store was cleaned by a professional company using protocols consistent with decontamination and all employees have been tested.

Augustus announced a total number of positive cases in Worcester as 2,297 today. The 109 new cases added today is the fifth highest single-day increase since the start of the pandemic.
