WORCESTER – The Worcester Police Department announced on Monday, March 11, that Dejan Belnavis, 27, is under arrest in the San Diego, California area.
Belnavis is a suspect in the shooting deaths of Chasity Nunez and her daughter, 11-year-old Zella Nunez, on Tuesday, March 5, near Lisbon Street and Englewood Avenue. The day after the shooting, police began distributing information and images of Belnavis, asking the public for information on his location.
Police announced on Thursday that Karel Mangual, 28, of Worcester, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Mangual and Belnavis face charges of Armed Assault to Murder and Carrying a Firearm without a License.
Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. said on Monday that charges against both men will be upgraded to murder.
Police began distributing images of Belnavis and seeking information on his location on Thursday. A financial reward was offered over the weekend for information leading to the arrest of Belnavis. Additional images of the suspect were distributed by police on Sunday.
