Worcester Bravehearts Open Season with Win, 14 Runs

WORCESTER – The Worcester Bravehearts won their season opener in a wild back-and-forth game at Holy Cross College’s Fitton Field on Wednesday.

The Bravehearts scored one in each of the first two innings against the visiting Norwich Sea Unicorns. An RBI double by Vincent Eramo of Fitchburg State University scored Anna Maria College’s Jeremy Rosenberg to make it 2-0 after two innings

In the top of the third, Norwich cut the Bravehearts lead to 2-1 with a single by Nichols College player Johnny Knox the brought Egrie of Holy Cross home to cut the Bravehearts lead to 2-1.

After the Bravehearts added another run, Norwich drove home four runs in the sixth, all with two outs. Norwich took a 5-3 lead into the eight inning.

A two-run home run by Marc Willi, a Weston native who attends the University of Michigan, tied the game after six.

Norwich put up another crooked number in the eight with a five-run inning. Brown University’s Connor Cooke and DJ Peron of UMass Dartmouth each had an RBI and scored in the inning.

Down 11-6 going into the bottom of the eight, the Bravehearts had a massive inning. Willi went deep for the second time in the opener with a three-run home run. Stetson’s two-run single would bring home the game-tying and winning runs in the 8-run Bravehearts eighth inning.

Northeastern University’s Dennis Colleran pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Reliever Sean Ryan of Nichols College collected the win.

The Bravehearts next head to Westfield on Thursday for a 10:30 AM start before returning home Friday to host the Nashua Silver Nights at 6:30 PM.
