Worcester Man Arrested for Burglary, Firearms Charges

WORCESTER – A local man arrested on Friday faces breaking and entering and gun charges.

Police responded to a report of a break in on Everard Street at around 5:30 PM on Friday, March 24. According to the Worcester Police Department, the first officer on the scene observed a man, later identified as Devondre Cooper, 43, of Worcester, who matched the description of the man provided and was holding a crowbar.

When the officer attempted to speak with Cooper, he fled the scene.

After a foot pursuit, Cooper was arrested.

Police say that a backpack Cooper dropped during the pursuit contained a sledgehammer and handgun. Police also say to the door near where the officer saw Cooper with the crowbar was damaged.

Cooper does not have a license to carry a firearm. He faces charges of:

  • Breaking and Entering during the Daytime with Intent to Commit a Felony;
  • Possession of Burglarious Instruments;
  • Vandalism;
  • Possession of a Firearm without a License;
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID; and
  • Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
