COVID-19 Cases in Worcester Increase for Second Week

WORCESTER – City Manager Ed Augustus’ office has reported the second consecutive week of an increase in new cases of COVID-19 in Worcester. For the reporting week ending July 30, 88 new cases have emerged in Worcester.

Of the five reports issued in July, 88 is the largest increase of new cases in any week of the month. The total cases within Worcester since the start of the pandemic is now 5,502.

Augustus’ office expressed concern at the numbers in the latest report, saying they “… indicate a substantial increase” and “… represent a concerning trend.”

The statement reminded residents to follow all COVID protocols and advised vigilance, social distancing and wearing a mask.

Augustus’ office also reminds businesses of their responsibility to ensure employees and patrons comply with the Governor’s mask wearing order.
