WORCESTER – Worcester City Manager Ed Augustus announced Thursday, February 25, that another 324 cases of COVID-19 have emerged in the city since the last COVID-19 update on Thursday, February 18. Eight residents have died in the same time period.
Augustus reported 49 cases confirmed on Thursday alone.
Residents of Worcester have now contracted 20,531 cases, and 407 have died since the beginning of the pandemic.
Vaccination Progress
The vaccination site at Worcester State University is now administering some 700 vaccinations per day.
The Worcester Department of Public Health has administered 8,469 vaccinations, including 7,395 at the Worcester Senior Center and 1,074 mobile vaccinations at congregate settings.
Seniors in Worcester have received 1,373 first dose of the vaccination. Administering second doses to seniors has started, with 71 receiving the second vaccination injection.
First responders in Worcester have received vaccinations, including:
- Police: 340 first doses, 339 second doses
- Firefighters: 311 first doses, 304 second doses
- Communications: 38 first doses, 25 second doses
Mobile vaccinations are also being delivered to those eligible at Worcester Housing Authority sites including 119 first doses at Webster Square East Tower and 143 doses at Webster Square West Tower. Of 193 residents at 1060 Main St., 147 have been vaccinated as of Thursday. Of 296 residents at 1050 Main St., 196 have been vaccinated.
The team will visit additional sites over the next 2 weeks, including:
- Elm Park Tower, 425 Pleasant St., on Monday, March 1
- Checkerberry Village in Holden on Wednesday, March 3
- Belmont Tower, 40 Belmont St., Monday March 8
- Pleasant Tower, 275 Pleasant St., Wednesday, March 10.
