Three Free COVID-19 Test Events this Week

The City of Worcester, UMass Memorial Health Care and Worcester Interfaith Group are hosting three COVID-19 resource fairs this week.

Residents can go to the fair and be tested for COVID-19 for free at the following locations:

  • Monday, September 21 — 12 PM to 4 PM at the City View Elementary School (Bell Hill), 80 Prospect St.
  • Wednesday, September 23 — 2 PM to 6 PM at Green Island Neighborhood Center-Crompton Park, 50 Canton St.
  • Thursday, September 24 — 1 PM to 5 PM at  Community Healthlink, 72 Jaques Ave.

 

Worcester Public Library Holding Discussion on Award-Winning Book

The Worcester Public Library is hosting a discussion on the award-winning book, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen.

The book has sold nearly two million copies and won an American Book Award and the Oliver Cromwell Cox Award for Distinguished Anti-Racist Scholarship.

The discussion will be moderated by Stephanie Williams, Cultural Humility Practitioner, on Saturday, September 26 at 11 AM. The program will be held virtually over Zoom, and registration is required at: https://tinyurl.com/liesbookdiscussion.

 

EcoTarium Hosting ‘Night Near the Museum’ Online Auction

On Saturday, September 26 at 8 PM, the EcoTarium is hosting “A Night Near the Museum” — a play off the museum’s past event, “A Night at the Museum.”

The online auction’s live finale will feature EcoTarium staff, resident species and a hands-on experiment to do at home.

The museum is auctioning off 37 items/experiences to help raise money in advance of the EcoTarium reopening in 2021.

Saint Vincent Hospital Recognizing Falls Prevention Awareness Week

Beginning Tuesday, September 22, Saint Vincent Hospital is observing Falls Prevention Awareness Week.

According to the hospital, falls remain a leading cause of injury for people aged 65 and older. Saint Vincent Hospital says fall prevention programs and clinical-community partnerships help reduced the number of falls among older adults.

Saint Vincent Hospital is encouraging employees and local residents to take part in socially distanced walking on Tuesday. Therapist Vincent Clark will streaming warm-up exercises across Saint Vincent’s social media platforms. You can get a sneak peek here.

 

Amtrak Offering 50 Percent Discount for Riders in Northeast

Amtrak travelers can now save up to 40 percent on the cost of monthly tickets and 50 percent for 10-ride tickets on all Northeast Regional trains, between Boston and Virginia.

The discount program also allows customers who purchase monthly, ten-ride and six-ride multi-ride tickets to confirm their trip prior to boarding on the Amtrak apps and on Amtrak.com or before departure at a staffed ticket window.

“When you combine essential safety measures with up to 50 percent savings, it’s truly a win-win for travelers,” said Roger Harris, Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer. “We remain committed to safeguarding the travel experience with enhanced safety and cleaning measures.”
