In today’s edition — Monday, Feb. 24 — the City Council’s public transportation committee is holding a public hearing tonight a fare-free WRTA, early voting starts today in Massachusetts, MassDOT is holding a public meeting this week on the replacement of several bridges in Southborough and Westborough, Becker College is participating in a huge gaming convention and a Japanese kimono fashion house is making its U.S. premiere in Worcester.

Public Meeting on Fare-Free WRTA is Tonight

The Worcester City Council’s public service and transporation subcomittee is hosting a public meeting tonight — Monday, Feb. 24 — at City Hall at 5:30 PM.

The committee will discuss the possibilities of a fare-free bus system in Worcester and what the WRTA’s future looks like in the city.

Early Voting Starts Today in MA

The Presidential Primary is scheduled for March 3 in Massachusetts. State Election Law allows voters to cast their ballots early from February 24 through February 28.

If you’re registered to vote in the City of Worcester, you can take advantage of early voting at any of the five early voting locations.

Each location will be equipped with electronic poll books for voter check-in, so voters can go to any location to place their early vote.

WAM to Host First Exhibition of Kimono Couture: The Beauty of Chiso

From April 25 to July 26, the Worcester Art Museum will present the first exhibition outside of Japan of historic and contemporary kimonos from the collection of Chiso, the distinguished Kyoto-based kimono house.

 Kimono Couture: The Beauty of Chiso examines the history and artistry of the prestigious 465-year-old garment maker through the presentation of 14 kimonos and an exquisite selection of related works of art. Paintings, kimono fragments, and woodblock printed books from the Chiso art collection reflect the creative collaborations between Chiso and several celebrated Japanese artists since the late 19th century.

The centerpiece will be a one-of-a-kind, contemporary wedding kimono specially commissioned by WAM for Kimono Couture

 

MassDOT Holding Public Hearing on Southbrough, Westborough Bridges

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation [MassDOT] is holding a Design Public Hearing to discuss the replacement of several bridges in Southborough and Westborough.

The hearing will be held on Thursday, February 27 at 6:30 PM at the Mary E. Finn Elementary School, 60 Richards Road, Southborough.

The proposed project consists of the replacement of four bridges along the Mass. Pike. The bridges carrying the Turnpike over Parkerville Road, Woodland Road, and Flanders Road will have their superstructures replaced, and the bridge over Cordaville Road will be fully replaced.

 

Becker College to Participate in PAX East 2020

From Thursday, Feb. 27 to Sunday, March 1, Becker College students will showcase their talentsat PAX East 2020 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The theme for the Becker College booth is “Realize Full Potential, Exceed Every Expectation, Defy All Boundaries.”

PAX East is one of the nation’s largest gaming conventions. Highlights include booths from major game publishers and independent developers, panels featuring video game industry insiders, game demonstrations, competitions, and more. In addition, participants use the event to announce new releases and tease upcoming projects.

“In addition to an exciting collection of student games, Becker booth #8048 at PAX East 2020 is designed to be a mecca of inspiration for Becker interactive media students—past, present, and future,” said Paul Cotnoir, PhD, associate dean of Becker College’s School of Design & Technology. “We will highlight Becker’s concept of the Interactive Media Design Ecosystem, which seamlessly integrates the technology, business, and design elements of game development. “

PAX East attendees are invited to drop by Becker’s booth to play and experience games created by current and former Becker students, and learn more about Becker’s Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Media and first-in-the-nation esports management bachelor’s degree.
