In today’s daily 5 Things You Need to Know feature, ThisWeekinWorcester.com explores five important items and stories that Worcester and Central Massachusetts residents should keep a close eye on.

These five things can cover a whole range of subjects and issues that we feel are pertinent to understanding what’s going on in the city and the cities and towns surrounding Worcester.

Transportation and Climate Initiative Agreement to Deliver Northeast At Least $1.4 Billion in Transit System Investment

The state announced that Massachusetts joins 11 other states across the Northeast and the District of Columbia in the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI) draft agreement, which would generate $1.4 billion to $7 billion per year regionally for transportation-related investments and about $500 million per year in Massachusetts to enhance transit system infrastructure, reduce roadway congestion and deliver more resilient, efficient transportation programs. The bipartisan, regional program will increase investments in the Commonwealth’s public transportation infrastructure and in climate resiliency programs to cut carbon emissions and help address the effects of climate change.

“Today is a significant step forward in creating a regional program that will deliver substantial resources for Massachusetts’ public transportation infrastructure, reduce carbon emissions and deliver 21st century solutions to our transportation system,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “Working together across the region is the best opportunity to meet Massachusetts’ transportation challenges and aggressive climate change goals, while ensuring continued economic growth.”

Artie Lange is Coming to Worcester

After 30 years of making people laugh as a stand-up comic, actor, best-selling author and radio host, Artie Lange brings his comedy to The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 14, at 8 pm. Tickets are now on sale to members and go on sale to the public on Friday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m.

Lange began his career in the comedy clubs of New York City, where he helped to create the popular sketch comedy group Live On Tape after writing and performing with other troupes, including Midnight Madness and The Improvables. Lange’s breakout work with Live On Tape landed him his debut television role as one of the original series regulars on FOX’s “Mad TV.”  Following “Mad TV,” Lange became a regular on Norm McDonald’s “The Norm Show.”

In 2001, Lange returned to his home state of New Jersey where he became a beloved regular on “The Howard Stern Show” for many years. During that time Lange also was featured in the films “Old School,” “Elf” and starred in “Artie Lange’s Beer League.”  His first memoir, “Too Fat To Fish,” was also written during this time and became a New York Times bestseller. After his departure from “The Howard Stern Show,” Lange continued in radio both with “The Artie Lange Show” and later on “The Anthony Cumia Show” all the while continuing to tour as a stand-up comedian.

In 2015, Lange returned to television with guest appearances on “The Jim Gaffigan Show” followed by the HBO comedy series “Crashing.”

Tickets start at $28. Go here for tickets.

The City Wants Your Input on Parks and Open Space

How important is open space to you? What would you like to see done to with parks in the city? When do you go to the parks and what do you use them for? The city has a lot of open space and parks, but planners want to know how you use them, what can improve and a lot more. There’s an important survey up right now and it takes only a minute or so to complete. You can do it here.
