WORCESTER – The forecast for Monday morning in Worcester calls for a heavy dose of freezing rain, according to the National Weather Service [NWS].

The NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Worcester area from 8 PM Sunday evening to 9 AM on Monday.

Up to a tenth of an inch of ice is expected.

Pockets of freezing rain may start on Sunday evening and steadier rain is anticipated to start late Sunday night into Monday. Temperatures will be near or below freezing.

NWS warns drivers that rain will freeze on untreated surfaces creating light icing , especially in the Worcester hills where the coldest temperatures are expected. NWS is advising drivers to drive slow and use caution.

Rain will continue through Monday morning as temperatures rise.
