WORCESTER – The Worcester Fire Department responded to a gas leak on Monday, which caused Park Avenue to be closed to all traffic around from Maywood Street to Beaver Street. Travelers are urged to seek alternate routes. There is no timetable for Park Ave. to be reopened.

The leak occurred was reported to the Worcester Fire Department Monday morning. Upon arriving at the scene the fire department determined gas had travelled into the building at 538 Park Ave., and reached potential explosive levels. National Grid workers were also at the scene shortly after noon on Monday.

Worcester Firefighters are no longer at the scene as of Monday shortly after 2 PM. The department reports the situation was mitigated prior to their departure but Park Ave. remains closed. Eversource is on the scene fixing the leak.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Editors Note: A previous version of this story reported the leak outside 548 Park Ave. That was incorrect and has been corrected.
