WORCESTERÂ – On Thursday, the City of Worcester installed two stop signs at the Heard Street and Clover Street, making the intersection a four-way stop.
The stop signs are part of years-long effort to get drivers to slow down on Heard Street and to prevent car accidents at the busy intersection.
Around 11 AM on Thursday, vehicles were still speeding through the four-way intersection, even with flashing signs at Heard Street school and at the Heard Street entrance from North Oxford Street. The flashing signs have been in place since at least July 12.
According to data from MassDOT, the Heard Street and Clover Street intersection was the site of 45 collisions between 2017-2019 and is in the top 5% of crash locations in Worcester.
In 2020, the City Council approved a pilot program installing stop signs along Clover Street from Heard Street to South Ludlow Street.
