UPDATE: Due to weather, the treatment of Indian Lake was postponed on Tuesday. Indian Lake remains open. The treatment will be rescheduled.
WORCESTER – Indian Lake will receive treatment to control the growth of harmful, toxin-producing algae on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
The City of Worcester has contracted the preventative treatment, and there is currently no threat of harmful algae exposure.
The City of Worcester is advising everyone to stay out of the water on Wednesday, don’t boat or fish, and keep their pets out of the water. Beaches will be posted prior to the application.
The lake is expected to reopen on Thursday.
The application of copper sulfate is a common practice to maintain a healthy lake and poses minimal risk to humans and animals after application is complete. The application is coordinated with the Indian Lake Watershed Associations and has been approved by the Worcester Conservation Commission.
