Former South High Assistant Principal John McFadden has Died

PAXTON – Former South High Community School Assistant Principal John McFadden, who served Worcester Public Schools for 36 years, died at UMass Medical Center in Worcester on Friday, March 3. He was 74 years old.

McFadden was vacationing in Cancun, Mexico in February when he suffered a traumatic brain injury and stroke because of a fall, according to a GoFundMe established by his family. Surgery was conducted in Mexico before he was transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. The care received outside the United States is not covered by medical insurance.

During his 36 years as an educator and administrator at Worcester Public School, McFadden also led teams on developing special and alternative education programs, and drop-out prevention programs.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in the Main South area of Worcester, McFadden was a United States Marine prior to his career in Worcester Public Schools. McFadden married his wife Suzanne (Desmarais) in 1971. They moved to Paxton 17 years later.

McFadden is survived by his wife Suzzanne, a son, two daughters, and seven grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 4 PM to 7 PM on Friday, March 10, at Miles Funeral Home, at 1158 Main St. in Holden.

The funeral is at St. Columba Parish, at 10 Richards Ave. in Paxton, at 11 AM on Saturday, March 11.
