Governor Charlie Baker’s office announced on Friday, December 4, that Massachusetts submitted its initial order of COVID-19 vaccine to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC].

Massachusetts allocation of 59,475 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is part of 300,000 it expects the CDC to ship to the state by the end of December.

State officials have been working with COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Group to prepare for distribution of the vaccine based on guidance from the CDC.

Several state government agencies have been working on preparedness and planning for a COVID-19 vaccine since early August.

The Department of Public Health has enhanced the Massachusetts Immunization Information System [MIIS] to prepare to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

MIIS is the state’s vaccine registry, ordering system, and inventory system. MIIS has had increased state investment over the last decade.
