MassDOT Predicts Memorial Day Weekend Travel Increase

 by TWIW StaffMay 21, 2021

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation [MassDOT] urges travelers over the Memorial Day Weekend to plan ahead due to higher than expected travel.

MassDOT also reminds residents that COVID-19 public health protocols, including the face covering advisory, remain in place until May 29.

On the Memorial Day holiday, Monday, May 31, all Massachusetts state offices are closed, and the MBTA runs on a Sunday schedule.

For information on traffic conditions, MassDOT encourages travelers to use one of the following resources:

Dial 511 before heading out onto the roadways and select a route to hear real-time conditions.

  • Visit, a website which provides real-time traffic and incident advisory information, access to traffic cameras, and allows users to subscribe to text and email alerts for traffic conditions.
  • Follow MassDOT on Twitter @MassDOT to receive regular updates on road and traffic conditions.
  • Download MassDOT’s GoTime mobile app and view real-time traffic conditions before setting out on the road.
