MARLBOROUGH – Massachusetts State Police [MSP] Troopers responded to a two-car crash on Route 290 that left a man dead at around 4:45 PM on Friday, August 21.
According to MSP, the preliminary investigation indicates a 2007 Toyota Yaris was travelling eastbound on Route 290 when the vehicle failed to slow for traffic merging onto Route 495 northbound. The Toyota struck a 2019 Nissan Armada in the rear. The cause of the vehicle failing to slow down remains under investigation.
The Marlborough Fire Department responded to the scene and extracted a 53-year-old man from Lawrence from the Toyota with serious injuries. First responders transported the man to UMASS Memorial Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Nissan Armada, a 38-year-old man from Wilmington, Connecticut, and other passengers, sustained no serious injuries in the crash.
The crash resulted in all travel lanes of Route 290 eastbound closed for over three hours. Only the breakdown lane was available for traffic during this time.
State Police, its Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section continue to investigate the crash. The Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services of Northborough and Marlborough responded to the scene.
