WORCESTER – Napoli Deli in Shrewsbury has an application before the Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday to open a second location at the corner of Plantation Street and Northboro Street, including adding a second floor to the 2 Northboro Street building.

This Week in Worcester reported owner Rodney Haddad’s plans to open at the same location in 2021. Haddad says the plan had to be put on hold.

Haddad plans to convert the existing space, formerly used as a dry cleaner, into a deli similar to what its existing retail operation at 79 S Quinsigamond Ave. in Shrewsbury. Adding a second floor to the property will enable a larger working area for modern kitchen space. His team currently operates its catering service in Shrewsbury from a basement kitchen.

The second floor will be built on the same footprint as the existing structure at 2 Northboro St.

Haddad says he grew up in the area near the building at 2 Northboro St., which has been in Haddad’s family for three generations. It was purchased by his grandfather after returning from service in the second World War.

Haddad purchased the deli at 79 S. Quinsigamond Ave. in Shrewsbury back in 2002 when it was named Francesca’s and ran the deli until 2006. In 2008, he bought the deli back and renamed it Napoli.
