WORCESTER – National Grid says it has received reports of an increased volume of scam attempts using bill collection attempts across residential and business customers.
A caller ID that says “National Grid” is not an effective means of verifying the call is legitimate. Customers should suspect a scam if they are:
- Threatened with an immediate power shutoff
- Pressured for payment when your balance is current
- The caller cannot provide the last five digits of your National Grid account number
The company reminds customers that they should never offer their account number to an incoming caller claiming to be from National Grid. A legitimate caller from National Grid will be able to provide the last five digits of your account number.
