WORCESTER – A 16-year veteran of the Quinsigamond Community College (QCC) police department was sworn in as its new chief on Friday, Feb. 2.
Stephen DiGiovanni , previously the Deputy Chief of Police Operations since 2015, was sworn in as chief during a Friday morning ceremony. In his previous role, DiGiovanni led the Patrol, Communications, and Security Divisions of the QCC Police.
“Steve’s exemplary education, knowledge and police work make him the perfect person to fill some big shoes and ensure the continued safety of our students, faculty and staff,” said QCC President Dr. Luis Pedraja.
DiGiovanni joined the QCC department in 2018 and was named its first full-time detective in 2014.
Pedraja also recognized the Kevin Ritacco, the outgoing chief, during the ceremony. Ritacco became the QCC chief in 2005 and joint the force there in 1981. Pedraja credited Ritacco for several accomplishments, including the QCC PD becoming the first community college in Massachusetts accredited, which was completed in 2019 through the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission.
