WORCESTER – City Manager Ed Augustus has issued a statement to remind city residents that possession and use of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts.

An increase in residential complaints about the use of fireworks prompted the statement.

Class C fireworks, such as sparklers, party poppers, snappers, firecrackers, spinners, cherry bombs and others are included in the Massachusetts law.

The sale of fireworks may result in a fine up $1,000 and one year in prison. Possession carries a $100 fine and confiscation.
