WORCESTER – The owner of Perry’s Deli in Charlton has come to an agreement to purchase the Bushel ‘N Peck on Chandler Street in Worcester.
Perry’s Tatnuck Deli has plans to open by mid-October.
Perry’s Deli owner Perry Jano said he plans to implement the same concept as his first location, which opened in 2019 inside Ted’s Package Store at 27 Worcester Rd. in Charlton.
Perry’s Tatnuck Deli will be a partnership between Jano and his brother-in-law, Robert Babbidge.
In an interview on Monday, Jano said Perry’s Tatnuck Deli will keep the focus of the shop on their sandwiches, with 25 different options, including their most popular “The Gobbler“ (turkey with cranberry sauce, stuffing, mayo and gravy), and classic sandwiches like Italian, roast beef with horseradish and turkey and bacon. Jano said they also plan to add a traditional deli counter, selling Boar’s Head premium meats, cheeses and other products.
Michael and Ann Bartosiewicz, the current owners of the Tatnuck Square Bushel ‘N Peck location, also own Bushel ‘N Peck locations in Grafton, Clinton, Westborough and on East Mountain Street in Worcester. The Tatnuck Square deli and sandwich shop was the first Bushel ‘N Peck and opened in 1980. Back then, it was known as Elsa’s Bushel ‘N Peck.
The Bartosiewicz’s bought the Tatnuck Square and East Mountain Street locations in 2005 from Tom and Elsa Oliveri. In the past 10 years, they’ve opened the Clinton and Grafton locations. According to Jano, the Bartosiewicz’s plan to keep the remaining Bushel ‘N Peck locations.
Jano and Babbidge are buying both the business and the property at 643 Chandler St. The Bushel ‘N Peck Chandler Street property is nearly 1,900 square feet and was built in 1965.
